The Ware Hotel

A catalyst for Waycross

Originally built in 1929, The Ware was once a busy hotel hosting travelers who spent the night in Waycross before boarding a train to their next destination until the railroad industry was no longer a significant form of transportation.

The Ware was left in a state of disrepair until 2011, when W.H. Gross Company historically rehabilitated and converted the Ware into affordable housing using the historic and affordable housing tax credits.

During the transformation, we incorporated conservation and sustainable protocols to preserve the Hotel’s iconic structure and art deco features that convey its historic significance.

Today, the Ware Hotel is a central figure in the continued revitalization of downtown Waycross spurring the economy by bringing new jobs to the downtown area and affordable housing to those with limited incomes.
